Hi Nicole! No, the Other Nicole.
Spinning Wheels Strikes Back
The last month has been a bit busy. Just like most families with kids getting out of school for the summer, our schedule has filled in very quickly. Both with personal things and with Photo Shoots, we are getting more and more booked each day. A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to photograph a couple of models for Spinning Wheels Designs again. Conveniently, both of the models were named Nicole, so we did not have to worry about saying either of their names incorrectly or calling them by the other's name. No matter their names, though, we had a great time with them, got some great photos, and learned a bit as well.
Just a couple of South Dakota girls. We're all just South Dakota girls at heart though, right? . . . . . . . right?
Meeting their Maker
Too bad she wasn't biking home. She wouldn't have had to put in much effort with all the Petals she got from the shoot.
Before you worry too much, no one died. "Meeting their Maker" Just refers to the fact that we had a special guest at our photo shoot. Normally, we meet up with the models themselves, so it's just the model/s, Alex, and I. Bryan Wheeler, the owner of Spinning Wheels Designs, dropped by this time and we got the opportunity to visit with the creator of the T-Shirt designs we were trying to capture appropriately in our photos. Bryan is a great person, and he is having just as much fun running his company as we have running ours. Essentially, neither of us feels like we have a business, but the opportunity to do something awesome that is fun on a daily basis.
Smile! Also, Please Don't Fall off That Ledge into the River.
Barefoot on a rock with water flowing over it. Now that's what I call a good time.
We try to base the location of our shoots based on the personality of our clients. In the case of advertising for T-shirts and trying to tell their story, we base the location on the design of the T-shirts being photographed that day. For these designs, we chose the Japanese Gardens in Sioux Falls. It worked great and there were some perfect spots for these designs. We had the Nicoles pose together in a few different ways since we don't always get more than one model at a time. A couple poses were of them visiting in different spots to show a more candid and personal side. The others were tied to Yoga Poses. The designs they had on at the time (they cycle through 3 or 4 on each shoot) were related to Yoga, so we had them do a couple poses and interact with one another to show their unity. My favorite was them doing a Yoga pose on the edge of a waterfall together. Between them on the edge of a waterfall, and myself leaning over the edge of a high railing, it was a very tricky set of shots, but we got it done.
Bye Nicole! Bye Nicole! Bye Nicole! By Nicole!
The shoot was a great success and we timed it for 2 hours, which would conclude just after sunset. It was the perfect amount of time and we got every shot we wanted without losing too much light. The Nicoles were a ton of fun to work with and, as usual, everyone was laughing the entire shoot and walked away with a smile. One of the Nicoles had brought her daughter and their dog, so we offered to take a few shots of the two before we left. It was a great feeling to have accomplished the shoot for Bryan's business, have a fun time, get great shots for the Nicoles' portfolios, and throw in a little gift for one with the candid pictures of her daughter. We can't wait to work with them again and will continue to love our job every single day, as we all should.
